If you wanted to make a donation to a charity, from a leaflet through the door or a TV appeal, would you want to be able to make a donation on their website? There is an increasing expectation that all charity websites will have the facility for you to make an online donation. This is often enabled by third-party services such as CAF, Just Giving, CTT and others.
In a recent survey of its ProgressCRM customers, Fisk Brett found that over 67% already had an online giving capability on their websites, over 23% wanted one, and only 9% said they didn't actually need it.
Of those with the capability, 55% were already using a third party on-line giving supplier to collect their donations. Two providers - CAF and Just Giving - had over 80% of that business. At present, data on the donations collected have to be imported, or entered, into the back-office systems.
Fisk Brett knew that only a few of its customers had already integrated their websites into their CRM databases. This enabled supporters of the charities to make donations direct, book on events or update their own ‘profiles'. But it was clear from responses that nearly all the others wanted this capability too.
"What we found", said Robin Fisk, "is that the majority of our Progress users would love to have a more seamless system, integrated with the third-party services to eliminate the import process. But many reported that they'd like to have an online service that actually cut out the need for third party suppliers of donation services."
