Charity IT Challenges & Opportunities

Information Technology is more important than ever in an economic climate where charities face daily challenges about efficiency. And new developments in IT represent opportunities that charities need to harness in order to remain competitive and relevant to their constituents.

However, technology itself is not a solution until it is deployed appropriately - for instance there are many examples of good and bad charity websites - and this survey taken in December2009 asked about the challenges associated with making technology work for you, not against you.

You may identify with the findings in this survey, or you may disagree with some. But we hope the survey shows that you are not alone in the challenges you face, and that you may gain some insight for improving the way in which your organisation can benefit from using technology in 2010 and beyond.

This inaugural survey was run online, and asked respondents from the UK charity sector specific questions about what they saw as the key challenges and opportunities for 2010 and beyond. One hundred and fifty people took the time to complete the survey, and they worked in a variety of functional areas (IT, fundraising, management etc). The organisations they represented were small, medium and large not-for-profit organisations, based on number of employees. The analysis of results highlights any differences according to organisation size, where relevant.
